Many of the pictures in the second half were taken after I got my new video card. Don't they look great? I should have gotten that thing a long time ago! --Jessica

Chapter Six

With the news of Mary Anne's pregnancy common Stoneybrook knowledge, I thought everything would go back to normal. Now we knew why Mary Anne had been so stand-offish: she was just feeling the pains of morning sickness, and she wanted to wait until she was though her first trimester to tell everyone she was expecting! It couldn't be more than that, I was sure, so I expected that Stacey would stop worrying about proving anything, Dawn would stop worrying about Mary Anne, and Mary Anne herself would stop worrying.

I would find out later that Stacey had one more thing to prove.

She called Jordan over to her house as soon as she heard about Mary Anne. As soon as he walked up to the pre-built shed, Stacey barked, "We're taking a dip in the hot tub. Get ready." She sauntered around back in her bikini, knowing Jordan could do nothing but obey.

Chapter Five Jul. 21st, 2005 @ 10:11 pm
Mary Anne never was the social butterfly that Abby or Claudia or--God knows--Stacey was, but after her collapse, she didn't leave the house for four whole weeks. When nobody had seen her for a good month, Dawn came over to my house.

"We should call Mary Anne, don't you think, Kristy?"

I shrugged. I had been thinking about Mary Anne, too, and I had wanted to call, but something in Dawn's voice made me hesitate. Something not quite honest.

"I mean, we care about Mary Anne, right? I know I do," she continued.

I told myself I was being paranoid. Dawn was Mary Anne's sister! I mean, sort of. Stepsister. Not related by blood. Her sister as much as Karen was my sister.

"Don't you care about Mary Anne?" she prodded.

"Of course," I said. Come to think of it, Dawn and Mary Anne were really only as related as I was to, say, Dawn. Or Mary Anne. I imagined Mary Anne next to me in a family portrait. I picked up the phone.

The phone rang eight times before anyone answered. The Brunos don't have an answering machine. "Ay'll take May-ruh Ay-un's mess-uh-ges," Logan always says. "No need fer her to tawk to innyone unneceesarry." I had nearly hung up when Logan finally answered.

Dawn pressed her face against my cheek, angling the receiver toward her ear slightly. I smelled her earthy scent and closed my eyes, feeling confused, suddenly. I had to cough before I could greet Logan.

"May-ruh Ay-un's sick," he told me, "an' she cain't even git her ch-yores done."

I imagined poor Mary Anne crouched over the toilet, and I wished I could be there to hold her hair back.

I didn't say that to Logan, though. )

To my readers... Jul. 12th, 2005 @ 10:38 pm
I'm very sorry it's been so long since I posted a new chapter. I'll be doing that before the end of this weekend.

I just got a new job, so that's good! But not so good for the Simulated BSC.

Fear not; the newest chapter will be posted before too long.

Chapter Four May. 25th, 2005 @ 02:09 pm
Stacey was felt really overwhelmed by Claudia’s outburst for a few days. Finally, sick of Claudia’s wandering around the yard and moaning unintelligibly—sometimes it sounded like “Mmmmmmmmeeeemmmmeee,” soft and slow—Stacey decided to pursue her plan to prove Jordan and everyone else wrong about Mary Anne. Stacey knew something was up; she just had to figure out what.

That night, she stole away to the Brunos’ house with her camera. )

Chapter 3 May. 6th, 2005 @ 10:09 am
Claudia has been thinking about her grandmother, Mimi, a lot.

Mimi died when we were in middle school... )

One thing I learned when I came back to Stoneybrook was that Mary Anne had been experiencing some crying fits. Now, we all know how shy and sensitive Mary Anne is--you wouldn't believe how much she's come out of her shell since she met Logan!--but the others said that this was different.
